1974 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow Long-wheelbase.
History and Service:
Between 1969 and 1977, only 2780 long-wheelbase versions were produced in the world. This configuration had four inches more rear legroom than the standard Silver Shadow providing rear passengers with an added degree of comfort. The vehicle features a high-pressure hydropneumatic suspension system licensed from Citroen, dual circuit braking, and hydraulic self-leveling suspension for supreme ride comfort. This Shadow is powered by the 6.75L V8 engine coupled to the GM-sourced Turbo Hydramatic 400 automatic gearbox.
This Rolls Royce has been very well maintained its entire life, driven but not driven to excess but also not a garage queen. In 1995, the owner at the time had some concerns about a mechanical component and, as a preventative measure, had the engine replaced with a rebuilt longblock of the same 6.75L type. The invoice for this procedure is in hand and will come with the car. At the time of this procedure, the car had 99835 miles on the odometer. The current engine has only seen around 14000 miles since then, with the odometer now reading 13349. This engine is very reliable, starts right away every time, is quiet and smooth. A new starter was installed in September 2017, purchased through Flying Spares in England and is a rebuilt original Lucas part.
In order to ensure the vehicle is still up to par mechanically, this Silver Shadow just had an inspection completed at the preeminent classic car shop in Eugene, Oregon where it was deemed to be in “excellent condition. The complete inspection findings will be provided and the items needing to be addressed are very minor and do not affect the safety or road-worthiness of the car. While at the shop, all five drive-belts were replaced and the coolant system was flushed and pressure-tested. This procedure was completed on 11/30/2017. The brake system is in excellent shape as well as the pads and rotors, pads have 5mm remaining. It tracks straight and tires are in very good condition.
The Mediterranean Blue (9510118) exterior paint is original and in great shape with only minor blemishes noticeable within five feet or so that could easily be corrected with a dual-action polisher and some time. The hand-painted coachlines are original, finished in Dark Blue (5470), and are in good condition although small portions have been lost to time. All exterior chrome parts are in excellent shape with almost no visible wear. All exterior lights are in excellent shape. To the best of my knowledge there is no rust on the vehicle.
This Silver Shadow is finished with Dark Blue (5470) interior carpet and leather seating. The leather seats are original, supple, and in excellent shape with negligible creasing and no issues. The dash and console wood components are in good shape, though the varnish is slightly discolored in a couple minor places. The door caps and rear vanity mirror frames have been hand-finished and oiled for a beautiful and rich look. The hand-tufted Wilton carpet is in excellent shape and the rear passengers have a small footrest finished in the same Dark Blue carpeting. The wool headliner is in excellent shape. An aftermarket Clarion 6-disc CD changer has been installed in the trunk and accessed through a head-unit on the upper center console. All door windows and locks work, though the rear left lock solenoid appears to need replaced - you can still manually lock it - and the front passenger window only works by way of the front passenger window switch – that specific driver’s side switch/wiring needs examined.
The title is clean and in hand. Also included are: a hard-copy of the full set of shop manuals, a full set of leather-care products, two oil filters, two sets of keys, and the original books, brochures, and owner’s manuals.
